Distribution: A
moderate sized deciduous tree found wild or planted throughout the deciduous
forest of tropical Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Southeast Asia and China
up to 2000m.
Description of Plant: The tree is perennial small to medium size and wild. Stem is
glabrous. Leaves are simple, sub-sessile (petiole is very short), resembling
pinnate leaves (having similar parts arranged on opposite sides).Flower of
amala is small, greenish-yellow or pinkish. Flower has six segments without
real petals. Amala are small, round berries with light green skin. The skin of
amala is thin with a flesh with juicy and crisp having slightly bitter and sour
taste.
Parts Used for Medicinal and Cosmetic purpose: All parts of the plant are used in various
Ayurvedic medicine herbal preparation including root, bark, leaves, fruits and
seed.
