 Description

It is a hairless herb with a plant height of 0.3-1.2m. The stems are square with obtuse angles, the older parts are lighter in color, the younger ones are reddish with white spots. The leaves are variably opposite and the lower leaves are usually simple or sometimes compound. The flowers are reddish-purple, large, drooping, with spreading panicles and strong opposite branches.

Distribution

Bryophyllum is a medicinal plant that is widely used in folk medicine for various treatments. Native to Madagascar, naturalized in tropical and subtropical regions.


Uses

  1. Treat respiratory ailments such as asthma, colds, bronchitis, cough and shortness of breath.
  2. Treatment of kidney stones.
  3. The crushed leaves can be applied to the forehead to treat headaches.
  4. The crushed leaves of the plant are often used as a topical remedy for discomfort, itching, and healing of skin conditions ranging from bites and boils to bruises and skin sores.
